The community is named for Albert and Adeline Kent, whose congressman son William bequeathed the nearby Muir Woods to the government for the protection of its beautiful native redwoods. Sometimes considered a contiguous community, Kentfield has a population of just under 6,000, while the higher-elevation Kent Woodlands is home to fewer than 2,000 residents.
